Missouri Rush is excited to jump into spring with a fresh new look for the School of Excellence (SOE). With a simplified curriculum, the intention is to draw a large player base to each session. Part of the initial launch is designed to be an opportunity to increase the amount of days in a week our players are touching the ball. As the program develops so will the complexity and demands of each drill but not until our players have built a solid foundation of consistent good habits.

We seek to target the specific growth in a player’s development that will allow them to be successful within a few core areas. Contrary to our name, SOE is in no rush to complete a checklist each night but more invested in making sure our players are building solid foundations related to ball skills that will stick with them. If you are interested in your child learning good habits consisting of work rate, accountability, and personal growth then be sure to come to SOE sessions this spring. SOE will be led by Tim Findall and Missouri Rush’s ambitious staff of junior trainers.

Adjusting from last years model of ball mastery and speed and agility alternating days through the week, our players can expect the same focus and environment Monday through Thursday. The session will be broken down into 3 phases where each phase will develop a different focus. Phase 1 will highlight movements with the ball that will increase our players ability to speed up, slow down, and change direction all while keeping the ball close to their body. Phase 2 will put more emphasis on ensuring our players are consistently making firm accurate passess along with building confidence to control the ball directly into our next action. Phase 3 will be full of small sided games consisting of 1v1 and 2v2 environments that will allow the players to reinforce the techniques that were being applied in phase 1 and 2.

As with all of our training environments, we ask for players to come with their own ball. Also try to only bring what is needed to train and eliminate unneeded items. This will enable us to use the most out of the space provided and also limit the chances of anything getting lost or misplaced.

Hybrid of Group and Individual Training

To ensure that all of our players are receiving  instruction and attention from our training staff we are going to introduce a hybrid training format for Blue Friday. The idea is to divide the group into smaller groups based upon arrival time to training. When players show up to Blue Friday they will be given a colored bib, and that will identify their group for the evening. Once training has began, there will be two sections that players will be working in.

The first area is the larger area and will cover a broad set of techniques and situations. The drills being used are going to mirror SOE, but will be tailored to using those techniques to enhance our finishing abilities on goal. There will be no structure as far as how much time each kids spend in a line, but will be encouraged to move around to keep lines balanced and limit long lines. Here players will have the freedom to move with their friends, teammates, and go with other players who are not in their group.

The second area will be a smaller more focused environment. Players should expect to spend between 20 to 25 minutes here.  This is where each of the smaller groups will take turns working with rush trainers to build a foundation of shooting technique. Sending the groups over separately will increase the trainer to player ratio in this area and will allow more specific instruction.

*please note later start date for Blue Friday
